Mel was determined. With four Pokemon now in hand, she knew winning was possible. She confidently stepped into the Gym, and said, "I'm here for a Gym Battle!" She then awaited her reply patiently...

Tsuki smiled as she entered the arena. "Are you so sure you want to battle so soon?" She commented, taking note of the girl's inexperienced air. "Very well then. This shall be a one-on-one battle. One pokemon each. No time limit."
Smiling, she tossed a pokeball. "Roses!" She called to the Roselia that appeared. "Do your best!"

"Go, Butterfree!" Mel said. The crystalline Pokemon came out of its Pokeball. This should be fairly easy... Thought Melony.

"A butterfree eh? It's cute, but..." Thin shoulders were shrugged as she pointed at it. "Roses, use stun spore to slow it down!"
Nodding, it violently shook the flowers on it's hand. Tiny yellow particles drifted towards the butterfly, fine powder sticking to it's wings.

"Butterfree, try to shake it off then use Sleep Powder!" Mel said. The Butterfree shook most of the yellow particles. Melony definately noticed that Butterfree was a bit slower because of the Stun Spore, but she wasn't discouraged.

A counter attack worthy of Sylver himself. Tsuki smiled bitterly as Roses breathed in the bluish powder, some of it even sticking to her a bit. The pokemon fell to the ground, fast asleep.
"Very well played," She commented, chocolate eyes never leaving her dozing pokemon. "Even for a beginner, you know what you're doing."

Melony smiled at the comment. "My Mom's won the Elite Four. She taught me a bit," Mel then went back to the battle. "Now use... PoisonPowder!" she said; for she knew this would poison the Roselia and lower its health.

Tsuki gasped. "She beat Sylver? Im.. impossible." The gym-leader stuttered, eyes wide.
Eyes drifted over to grass-type, and her flabbergasted expression melted away. The noxious spores drifted onto roselia, but the pokemon continued to sleep unharmed. Tsuki smiled. "Ah, but she obviously didn't tell you that poison attacks don't work against other poison types."
The pokemon in question stirred at last, waking from it's slumber. "Now, Roses, use poison sting!"
Tiny noxious needles flew through the air at butterfree; pokemon sat confident and waited for impending collision.

Mel's eyes grew wide. "I...I forgot," Then she looked suddenly at her Butterfree. "Dodge it, quickly! Now use Confusion!" The Pokemon skillfully dodged the Roselia's attack.

Tsuki grimaced. Roselia's eyes were shut tight, trying to block out the mental pressure caused by the confusion attack. Sighing, she recalled the pokemon. "Maybe Ami was right. Maybe knowing when to pull your pokemon out of battle is just as important as winning sometimes. In any case..." chocolate eyes drifted to Mel. "Here's your badge. Not only did you demonstrate skill enough to beat my poor Roselia, but you also demonstrated kindness and compassion for your pokemon. You've earned it." She said with a smile.

Melony couldn't believe it. She hadn't even made the Gym Leader's Pokemon faint, yet she was earining the badge. She began shivering with excitement and happiness. "Th-thank you..." she stammered. YES! YES! She thought. "Butterfree, return." She walked out of the Gym feeling like she didn't deserve the badge. But she knew it was the Leader's choice.
She knew just where to keep it. Her Mom had given her a special case just for badges; that she had used when she was young. She carefully placed her first badge in its rightful place.
